COVID-19 Update from Ballard Little League

With yesterday’s announcement of a 14-day closure of Seattle Public Schools, and because of the new state and local public health order, Ballard Little League will suspend all baseball and softball activities for a minimum of 14 days starting today, March 12th.

The most important factor in our decision was the public health order from the City of Seattle and King County.  The public health order,
which can be found here, states that public events with fewer than 250 attendees are prohibited, unless event organizers can take steps to minimize risk.  There are criteria that must be met to minimize risk, but at this time, BLL is not in a position to guarantee that all of these conditions can be met.

We recognize that some coaches may want to hold “unofficial” practices with their players.  Such gatherings, if they occur, are not sanctioned by the league.  Having said that, we recognize that children need fresh air and outside activity while not in school.  As of today, the Seattle Parks’ fields are still open and our league’s baseball field slots are still available if parents want to have a little batting/fielding practice with their children.  If you do, please follow all current CDC and public health recommendations.

During the 14-day postponement, we will monitor the public release of information to determine if our league can proceed safely with official practices and games.  Our goal is to resume activities on March 26, and we will communicate with everyone as we learn more.

Please stay safe.  We will be back in touch soon.
